The development comes days after the US launched a military operation in Venezuela and captured the country’s President Nicolas Maduro and first lady Cilia Flores from their Caracas safe house.
Following the US capture of Maduro, India had expressed “deep concern” over the situation, reaffirming its support to the well-being of the people of Venezuela.
“India reaffirms its support to the well-being and safety of the people of Venezuela. We call upon all concerned to address issues peacefully through dialogue, ensuring peace and stability of the region. The Embassy of India in Caracas is in contact with members of the Indian community and will continue to provide all possible assistance”, the Ministry of External Affairs had said in a statement.
Trump says US to get 50 million barrels of oil worth USD 5.2 billion from Venezuela
Following Maduro’s capture, he was taken to the United States and charged with narco terrorism and other sections.
US President Donald Trump claimed that Washington will run the country. He also announced that the US will control the Venezuelan oil.
Earlier this week, Venezuela’s military and police forces publicly pledged their loyalty to interim President Delcy Rodriguez during a ceremony held on January 28 in Caracas.
While the US claimed its operation in Venezuela was a strategic move, Rodriguez said it was aimed at capturing the country’s vast energy resources.
Addressing the National Assembly in her first major annual speech since assuming leadership, Rodriguez said the US military operation that resulted in Maduro’s capture and transfer to the United States has damaged bilateral ties.
“They invaded and kidnapped President Maduro and the First Lady. It is a stain on the relations between the United States and Venezuela, and we said that we were going to resolve that stain diplomatically,” she added.
